How much does it cost to hire a bookkeeper?

Trying to manage your books could be costing you more than you think. Our packages start from just $150 per month.

Most small business owners underestimate the real cost of managing their own bookkeeping, not just in time, but in the mistakes that accumulate quietly until they become expensive.

  • Late super payments that attract Superannuation Guarantee Charges.
  • BAS lodged on incorrect figures.
  • Payroll processed at award rates that have not been updated.
  • Award compliance missed entirely.

These are not rare cases, they are the everyday reality for businesses managing their books without professional support. For most business owners, that is less than the cost of a single ATO penalty and far less than the accumulated cost of doing it wrong.

Running a business is demanding enough without spending your evenings reconciling bank accounts, chasing payroll deadlines, or trying to work out why your BAS figures do not add up.

That is why you hire a bookkeeper at affordable prices.

Clients Needs Bookkeeping is led by Matthew Powell, a registered BAS Agent with more than 15 years of experience working with small business owners across Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula.

We work across MYOB, Xero, and QuickBooks and we have seen — and fixed — virtually every bookkeeping problem a small business can encounter.

  • Accounts that have never been reconciled.
  • Payroll processed at the wrong award rates for years.
  • Super paid late, or not at all.
  • GST underpaid because the books were not being maintained properly.

We know what goes wrong, and we know how to prevent it.

Our pricing starts from $150 per month.

Every package is structured around what your business actually needs, not a one-size-fits-all subscription that charges you for services you will never use.

A sole trader running a straightforward operation has very different requirements from a cafe with ten casual staff, a tradie managing materials inventory and subcontractors, or a company with complex payroll and quarterly BAS obligations.

We have built packages to reflect that reality.

What is included in your package depends on your circumstances, but at every level you are getting a registered BAS Agent — not just a data entry service. That means your BAS lodgments are prepared from clean, reconciled figures and lodged on time, with the automatic four-week extension available to registered agents.

It means your payroll is processed correctly under the relevant Modern Award, with STP reported to the ATO every payday. It means your superannuation is calculated on the right earnings base and paid on time — protecting you from the Superannuation Guarantee Charge and the loss of your tax deduction that comes with a single late payment. And it means you have someone who can represent you with the ATO directly if a compliance issue arises, because that is what a registered BAS Agent is authorised to do.

The cost of professional bookkeeping is also generally tax deductible, which reduces the real out-of-pocket cost.

More importantly, it removes a function from your plate that carries real financial risk when it is not managed correctly and replaces it with professional accountability, consistent compliance, and the financial clarity that comes from having your numbers current, accurate, and maintained by someone who does this every day.

If you are currently managing your own books, or using a bookkeeper who is not a registered BAS Agent, it is worth a conversation.

The first one is free.
